Single-family house Kilchberg

Built in the 1920s, this detached house enjoys a prime location on Lake Zurich. The comprehensive renovation focused on respecting the historic building fabric. The house's original character was preserved and carefully combined with contemporary living standards.

Authentic materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and precisely executed details define the design. Among the distinctive features are the classic herringbone parquet flooring, the bronzed metal handrails in the stairwell, high-quality custom-made joinery, and the solid natural stone countertop in the kitchen. Together with the carefully coordinated color scheme, these elements lend the rooms warmth, timelessness, and understated elegance.

The old wooden beam ceilings presented a particular structural challenge. These were rebuilt and their acoustics improved. The wooden staircase, which had sagged over the years and creaked loudly, connecting all floors, was also carefully realigned and repaired.

This project was developed during my time at the Zurich-based architecture and design studio IDA14, under the creative direction of Karsten Schmidt. Project and construction management were carried out jointly with Karsten Schmidt, with me bearing the primary responsibility for planning, coordination, and implementation. Furthermore, I played a key role in the design development.
