Aarau Cantonal Hospital

The "Dreiklang" project emerged as the winner of the comprehensive design competition for the new Aarau Cantonal Hospital. The building concept impressed the jury with its integrated functionality, the clear separation of outpatient and inpatient care, and its high degree of flexibility. At its core was a fundamental principle: short and efficient routes for staff and patients.

The interior design was developed as an integral part of the overall concept during the competition phase. Spatial structure, function, orientation, and atmosphere were combined into a holistic design solution that supports the complex requirements of a modern hospital operation.

The competition entry was created during my employment at the Zurich-based architecture and design studio IDA14, under the creative direction of Karsten Schmidt. My responsibilities included project management for the interior design as well as the co-development and elaboration of the comprehensive design concept for the competition phase.

Following the successful completion of the competition, IDA14's involvement ended. Further planning and implementation of the interior design were subsequently undertaken by Iria Degen Interiors.
